22 Jun Happy Summer Solstice from Western North Carolina
Yesterday was the half way point. The time of year when the sun is at it’s zenith, the days are long and the weather is hot.
In many traditional cultures, the sun represents the active, dynamic, life-giving forces of the universe, and the summer solstice a time to celebrate, give thanks and mark the transition into the dark half of the year. It is also a time to honor the wild-things that cannot be tamed.
At Laughing Waters Retreat Center and Hickory Nut Forest Eco-Community the last six months of a waxing sun brought new growth: exceptional and unique events; regional, national and internationally known teachers; and workshops, classes and seasonal ceremonies.
The land continues to give its gifts, with the garden and orchard growing and bearing fruits. The eco-community is moving forward with Ryan putting the finishing touches on his new solar home. A Design Charrette for gathering ideas from anyone interested in community living is scheduled this weekend.
As we celebrate the summer solstice, we want to thank all of you who have participated in the growth of Laughing Waters and Hickory Nut Forest this year and welcome those of you we have yet to meet. We look forward to many more experiences of mutual expansion and hope to see you in July for our DAY OF MASSAGE AND BODY WORK.
