    10 miles from Hickory Nut Forest, the Blue Ridge Parkway has outstanding scenery and recreational opportunities making it ``America's favorite drive``. It winds its way 469 miles, from Shenandoah to the Great Smoky Mountain National Parks.

  • BLUE RIDGE MOUNTAINS

    This US mountain chain is part of the Appalachian mountains, running from Georgia to Pennsylvania. Trees cause the mountains to appear blue when seen from a distance and put the ``blue`` in Blue Ridge, by releasing hydrocarbons into the atmosphere.

  • APPALACHIAN TRAIL

    The Appalachian Trail is a continuous marked footpath that goes from Katahdin,Maine to Springer Mountain, Georgia, a distance of about 2160 miles. Hickory Nut Forest is located 20 miles from the Appalachian Trail.

  • HOT SPRINGS

    Hot Springs, NC is a magical place about an hour’s drive from Hickory Nut Forest where you can soak in a natural hot spring on the bank of the French Broad River. This is one of the most relaxing, healing things that we love to do.

    One of the most popular National Parks is a short drive away through the beautiful Blue Ridge of North Carolina. Spend a day or weekend in the amazingly diverse ecosystem of the Southern Appalachians and explore hikes of all lengths and levels of difficulty.

    Asheville is home to numerous music festivals throughout the year. Blue grass music, Celtic and old time mountain music can be heard in many various events. Musicians come from all over the world to join in the fun and create this wonderful music scene.

In These Mountains

The North Carolina mountains are the oldest and some of the most beautiful and magical mountains in the world. They are abundantly rich in diverse plant and animal life and contain pristine streams and waterfalls. Sheer rocky cliffs and expansive vistas offer wonderful views. The climate is mild in all four seasons, never too hot or too cold. While we get to enjoy occasional snows in winter, it melts off within days. And air conditioning is rarely needed in the summer at this elevation. Beautiful spring flowers and fall leaves offer a vibrant pallet of colors.
